I’m so thrilled, honored, and excited to FINALLY announce my new book. Are you ready? Are you ready? HERE. IT. IS.
The basic premise is that fifteen minutes in the future, a former reality television “star” has been elected President of the United States (I know, impossible, right?) and has sold the criminal justice system to a Hollywood producer who has turned San Francisco’s Treasure Island into Alcatraz 2.0, a fake suburb environment where criminals convicted of capital crimes are sent to live “normal” lives–working jobs, living in duplexes–but are also hunted down by thematic, government sanctioned serial killers and their deaths are live streamed on an app for your phone or tablet.
Did I mention this is a comedy?
I wanted to mix the public obsession with live-streaming entertainment with the very real possibility of a Roman Coliseum-esque blood bath, as an over-the-top black comedy with an easy dose of social commentary. Our heroine, 17-year-old Dee Guerrera has been falsely (she believes…) convicted of killing her stepsister and condemned to Alcatraz 2.0 where she must survive long enough to find out who framed her, and why, while dodging serial killers such as Gucci Hangman (a fabulous drag queen fashion model), Cecil B. DeViolent (who recreates scenes from famous movies to kill his victims), the Hardy Sisters (who dress up as notorious sister acts from literature), and a half-dozen more lunatics roaming the island.
#MurderTrending has a little bit of romance, a diverse, LBGTQ friendly cast, and a lot of laughs all rolled up in a really high body count. So basically, a classic Gretchen McNeil novel.
I hope you love it in 2018!
